Les Voisins / Neighbours
January 2009
International Festival of Animated Objects (www.animatedobjects.ca)
+15 Level - EPCOR CENTRE for the Performing Arts
Every other year, the Calgary Animated Objects Festival celebrates “puppetry, masks and all things animated” in one of the most creative and innovative arts festivals in the city. This year is no exception.
In addition to the mid-January program of performances and events, the festival is also taking over the four window galleries located in the Plus-15 of the Epcor Centre for the Performing Arts. Titled Les Voisins / Neighbours, each window is being designed by a different artist using a mannequin as a character. Every day, the exhibit will change slightly, creating, as organizers describe it, “a very slow, month-long stop-animation that tells a kind of abstract, soap opera-style story.”

Steam Whistle Design-A-Deck
October 3rd, 2008
Artlife Gallery
Steam Whistle invited 8 local artists to design 8 skateboard decks, and the results were both incredible and outrageous. From an octopus smashing a Steam Whistle ship, to a deck decorated like a cake–all 8 reflect the variety and vibrancy of the Calgary arts community. Come out and see all 8 decks hung with care in the Artlife Gallery–one night only–before they scatter throughout the city to your favourite eateries, booze joints and rock clubs where, if Lady Luck smiles down on you, for the price of a Steam Whistle you could win one of these works. Want to improve your odds? Buy 5 Steam Whistles and make some friends for life. By drinking ice cold Steam Whistle for the whole evening helps fill up Elephant Artist Relief’s piggy bank. . . which means you’re doing a great service to your community!
Steam Whistle Unsigned
March 28, 2008
Palomino Social Club
An extension of the Unsigned concert series already held quarterly at the Roundhouse in Toronto, home of Steam Whistle Brewing! Steam Whistle Unsigned is an event to exhibit some of the amazing musical talent coming out of Canada, as well as helping to cultivate its future. Each concert features three artists from the local community, as well as a DJ between sets.
Elephant Artist Relief was the proud beneficiary of the proceeds of the event, held March 28 at the Palomino Smokehouse and Social Club. In bringing these events together, Steam Whistle is teaming up with The Palomino Smokehouse & Social Club and CJSW. The packed house grooved to the styling sounds of Vixen Tor, Axis of Conversation and Light City Fiction, as well as the deejayjay-ing of the divine Lady K and Adam.
A huge thank you to everyone who came out in support of EAR and giant kudos to Brad and Chris Goddard of Steamwhistle, Spencer Brown and all the staff at the Palomino.
CAMPER
Sept 14-15, 2007
Olympic Plaza
CAMPER, which stands for Contemporary Art Mobile Public Exhibition Rig, is TRUCK Gallery’s new mobile project space, a converted RV bringing art to the public and the public to art. Investigating the place where art, education, the road, and recreation meet, it explores these intersections in a way that encourages participation, raises awareness, and fosters education of contemporary art practices. Read the survey results
From Friday Sept. 14 – Saturday Sept. 15, 2007, Elephant Artist Relief was on site capturing data from local artists about their challenges in health and welfare. We also had a nifty Exquisite Corpse game going on.
